James H. King
James is the West Texas program manager for The Nature Conservancy in Fort Davis, Texas. He came to TNC in 1989 from Schneider/King Company, a statewide real estate brokerage firm, where he was the chairman and co-founder. He is a sixth generation South Texan growing up on the Texas coast in Corpus Christi. He graduated from Oxford College of Emory University with an associates of arts degree in liberal arts and from Texas A&M with a bachelor of science degree in Range Science.
James was the director of land protection for the Texas chapter for 12 years, and has been instrumental in acquiring over 300,000 acres of land for conservation. He initiated a number of landscape conservation initiatives for TNC including the Davis Mountains, Devils River, Barton Creek, Caddo Lake, Laguna Madre, Lower Rio Grande River, Marfa Grasslands, Lower Pecos River, and Chinati Mountains. King has also pioneered the conservation buyer program for the conservancy which has resulted in over 35 conservation easements covering 250,000 acres of important wildlife habitats across the state. James has served on the statewide management team for The Nature Conservancy for over 12 years.
James is an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, ranching, family adventures and serves on the board of the Trans-Pecos Water Trust and the Texas Mountain Trail Region.
