The purpose for which the corporation is organized is the transaction of charitable, educational and scientific business that is permitted of charitable organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. This purpose specifically extends to restoration and protection of instream flows, aquatic systems and riparian habitat in and along the Rio Grande and its tributaries, from Fort Quitman, Texas to Amistad Reservoir. The corporation may acquire, through lease, purchase or donation, existing water rights and, where necessary, seek to have instream use added to or be the sole authorized purpose(s) of those water rights. The corporation may also undertake research, education, outreach and fundraising in support of its public purpose. The corporation may also provide technical and other assistance to landowners along the Rio Grande and its tributaries, where such assistance furthers the overall public purposes of the corporation.
